Deep dive
Realistic is the Holland type for practical, hands-on interests. Your answers kept choosing tools, building, outdoor work, and visible results over ideas, people, or paperwork.
Electrician, mechanic, civil or mechanical engineer, carpenter, chef, pilot, park ranger, veterinary technician, firefighter, physical therapist assistant, and lab technician all fit Realistic interests. Many of these roles are in high demand and pay well, and several can be started through apprenticeships rather than long university courses. If you enjoy problem-solving with your hands, these careers turn that instinct into a profession.
You do your best work in workshops, outdoors, on job sites, in kitchens, or anywhere you can move and use your hands. Workplaces with clear tasks and tangible outcomes suit you far better than offices full of meetings, emails, and endless discussion without action. Seeing the result of your work with your own eyes keeps you motivated.
Check your ranking chart. Realistic plus Investigative (RI) points to engineering, technical research, and science-based trades. Realistic plus Conventional (RC) suits manufacturing, logistics, and technical inspection. Realistic plus Social (RS) leads to coaching, physical therapy, and emergency care.
Try a short hands-on course, volunteer on a building or conservation project, or shadow someone in a trade that interests you for a day. Realistic types usually know very quickly whether a field is right once they've actually tried the work. A single day on site often teaches more than a month of reading about it.
